PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS

Our club is the largest and most active service organization on campus. We are dedicated to providing a wide variety of service opportunities to a large number of students. In order to best serve the needs of our members and the community, we plan a broad range of service projects that reflect the diverse interests of our members and the various concerns of the community. If you would like information on a project not listed here, or more information on a project that is listed, please contact any board member.

The Aidan Project:

The Aidan Project is one of Circle K's largest and most well-known projects. The project has received both single service awards from the Indiana Disrict of Circle K as well as awards at the national level. For the past 5 years hundreds of volunteers from both the South Bend community and the University have come together to create blankets for cancer patients across the country.

Hospice Care:

This is a new opportunity to create fun and engaging projects and activities for the hospice residents on a monthly basis. Projects vary each month but may include hosting a painting event, game night, or even a senior citizen prom. Volunteers with ideas for fun activities can email ckappil@nd.edu or cmahon@nd.edu .

Center for the Homeless:

The South Bend Center for the Homeless has been in existence for over 20 years providing over 1.5 million meals to its clients. Circle K will organize Fun-Friday activities with the school-age children at the Center, including art projects, sports, and board games, etc.

Dismas House:

This faith-based reentry program gives students the opportunity to assist, mentor, and tutor former prisoners as they make a safe, stable, and sound transition back into the community.

Hannah & Friends:

A nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and adults with special needs, Hannah & Friends provides youth and adults with disabilities day programs and after school activities ranging from music to art to zumba.

La Casa de Amistad:

While helping local students with homework, you will be seen as a role model, a big brother or sister to these great kids. Your work will provide students with self-esteem and a positive look at the future through education and self-respect. Speaking Spanish is not a requirement (although not a detriment!).

Robinson Community Learning Center:

The Robinson Community Learning Center is a community location where local kids come to get extra help and support for school and other activities. The Circle K mentors that visit Robinson will be able to help tutor the kids and be a positive role model for them. In addition, we work with them very closely for Turning Over a New Leaf!

New Life Community:

Across the street at Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame's Circle K spends a great time with nuns in the early stages of Alzheimer's. The convent provides a social rather than a medical environment for the sisters with favorite activities like trivia. Come out and see whether it's you or the sisters who remember the most random facts!

St. Mary's Convent:

Circle K works with SMC to socialize with nuns having a variety of needs volunteers provide attention and hope to these lovely ladies, yet many students return with a greater understanding and appreciation of life from viewing another perspective.

Turning Over a New Leaf:

Turning Over a New Leaf is one of Circle K's signature projects for the fall semester. It is a great opportunity to get off-campus and help out the residents of South Bend. Every year, members of the South Bend community sign up to have volunteers help rake their lawns, and many members of Notre Dame's student population come out to aid our non-ND neighbors.

For more information on when the projects meet, please check our calendar under the projects' tab.
